This week Year 4 have been learning a lot about Māori people in New Zealand. We researched and understood where New Zealand is on the map and the culture and traditions of the Maori people.
In literacy we have read about a Maori book based on a mythological creature called the Taniwha, which inspired us to create our own Taniwha with imprints of Māori patterns. We have created hats using only red, white and black, to symbolise love, earth and purity. We also have made Māori masks, which mirror Māori facial tattoos and completed the haka dance for the school.
